What benefit is there for kids to drive up to Arizona's Camp Verde "Weekend Wars" Tournament?

This is the place for quality mat time during the off-season. The tournament attracts many serious contenders from throughout Arizona and from out of state. Anybody that’s a serious wrestler, practices and participates in Summer tournaments as preparation for the Winter season. Each wrestler who attends is given the opportunity to wrestle up to ten matches. This is a big draw for other teams statewide, as well as teams from out of state, who face the same dilemma, which is the lack of wrestling competition. Nonstop grappling takes place on seven mats and by the end of the day there is an abundance of mat burns, a few bloody noses, but a wealth of wrestling experience for each athlete that makes the trip to Camp Verde.

Many kids perform hours of practice throughout the week in preparation to attend New Breeds, “Weekend Wars” tournaments. Their reward is to do battle with another dedicated young champion, pushing each other to even greater heights. Kids that wish to move up another level in their wrestling skills, can ask any coach for technical advice. I guarantee before the day is over, if you wrestled against the best, they will have helped you expose the weaknesses you must work on.


Many coaches and parents come together to create a motivational environment most conducive to the wrestlers success. We measure and motivate them; and so they leave here highly inspired with an attitude to excel. There is no win/lose situations. At the end of the match both wrestlers hands are raised as a sign of both being victorious for having participated in this prestigious event.

This past year we served over 3000 kids. Kids from the states of Arizona, California, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Washington and Nevada participated this past year. We wrestle Folkstyle for 3 one minute periods. We weigh-in at 8:00 AM and finish by noon on scheduled Saturdays. We will commence the tournaments again in May of 2010. If you are interested please make plans for this coming year to attend. Many have asked to be notified early so as to notate on their calendars. Please feel free to inform others from out of state so we can enhance this tourney.

There is no entry fees, no fees for anything, we are just looking for mat time for everyone during the off-season. Donations are welcomed.

10 days and counting tell weekend wars. When: MAY 15 -WERE: CAMP VERDE WRESTLING ROOM - COST: FREE. (You might bring some fruit or water to help with the free refreshment table) - TIME: 830AM. Many kids get 10 matches if they want that many. This first one should be huge we have team from Las Vegas and Colorado coming. Plus a ton of AZ team have called to say they are coming. So bring your warrior spirit and desire to improve. Because the best way of get better is mat time, mat time and more mat time.

Just a reminder that on May 15th, it will be the first Weekend Wars. If you are using Map Quest, use 321 W Apache Trail, Camp Verde AZ 86322 as your destination. Grades 1st through 12th.



Please use the attached release form. You only need to turn one in for the whole off-season. I will keep them on record. So many kids that attended Weekend Wars either took state or placed high. I was elated to get input from all the parents and coaches expressing gratitude and eager to know when Weekend Wars starts again. On May 15th we got a team coming up from Las Vegas looking for some tuff competition. I expect a lot of teams on this day.



Everything is free. All we want is mat time for all kids. I highly recommend it to anyone that wishes to move up another level in their wrestling skills. Weigh-ins start at 8:00AM. Folkstyle Wrestling starts at 8:45 AM (three one minute periods) and usually finishes by noon. We would like parents and coaches to either ensure that all your kids sign a wavier (see attached). For those of you who have been asking how they can help support these weekend wars, I could really use help with refereeing or bring a case of water.



We must all work together to create a motivational environment most conducive to our children's' success. We as Fathers and Coaches must become mentors. We must play an important role as an architect and builder in the art of teaching our children. We must help them excel in all that they do, so they can look forward to a brighter future, full of many wonderful and exciting opportunities. This is the main reason why we put on these Saturday tournaments. It’s my calling in life to help kids, to measure and motivate them and encourage Fathers to participate in their childs learning agenda.
