Did it seem that some of the officiating was questionable?

Im usually hesitant to be critical of officials because my father officiated HS sports for many years and its a tough job. But I will make the comment that if you are an official and cannot either get down on the mat or cannot get back up easily it might be time to hang the whistle up or lose 100 lbs.

With that said there was some outstanding wrestling,,,, Ens and Guttierez had an incredibly entertaining match,,, and Gomez and Smith was rediculous. Im glad we finally got Montiel back and the rust showed in his matches but he has another week to get ready.

Agreed. Wrestling might be the toughest sport to officiate so I try to not be hyper-critcal of them, but there were a few instances yesterday that were too much for me. The point you make along with the inconsistency both between refs as well as with one in particular was tough to handle.

It's never going to be perfect and there is always going to be some degree of subjectivity, but you hate to see matches decided by officials and not by the wrestlers. I don't officiate, so I may be speaking out of line in commenting. I'm also aware that I probably wouldn't be that good at it...so I don't do it! I think some of the refs would benefit from that type of rational.

I also agree on the matches...entertaining to say the least! I made a similar comment about Montiel...it will take a few matches to shake off the mat-rust.
