The Arizona chapter of USA Wrestling is starting a Folkstyle wrestling league starting the 1st weekend in October-January. The schedule will include at least ten folkstyle tournaments around the state and a state tournament. The age groups will include Bantam-Schoolboy. During October the age groups will also include Cadets & Juniors. In January, we will have a AZ USA Folkstyle State tournament for age groups Bantam-Schoolboy.
Membership fees are $35 for the AZ USA Wrestling athlete card and a club membership of $100 which is good for the whole year including all styles. You schools administrators will appreciate that you have a secondary insurance coverage for your wrestlers and tournaments. The card you purchase to wrestle in the folkstyle tournaments is good for the freestyle tournaments in the spring, the card is good from the date you purchase until Aug of the following year.
Remember AZ USA Wrestling doesn’t profit from this folkstyle league. We are NOW offering all AZ USA Wrestling members TWO leagues for the price of ONE at no extra charge. This is actually an EIGHT month season October-May for the price of one $35 membership athlete card.
Go to themat.com/section.php?section_id=7 to register as an athlete or club membership.
The schools or clubs, in Phx., Tucson or Northern AZ, which host the tournaments receive the entire gate and entry fees. The athlete participation entry fee for the tournaments is $10. The club hosting the tournament will provide at least three mats, table workers, tournament director, and referees. You run the tournament you get the money.
This league will not compete with Alex Pavlenko’s state tournament or Brett Kramer’s Tucson state tournament. We need to start our kids in Folkstyle first then train them in Freestyle and Greco later.
Get your tournament date set and give me a call and watch Arizona grow its numbers in the next five years.. First come first serve on tournament dates. These clubs and schools are already locked into hosting tournaments: Boulder Creek, Cactus, Verrado, Sunkids, Mesa Mt. View.
If interested in hosting a tournament, please contact Tom Wokasch AZ USA Wrestling Kids & Cadet Director at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or by phone at 928-301-0949. I hope to have every weekend filled through the state tournament January 15th.

can you go as an individual with an USA wrestling card and not as a club because there is only to of us from Snowflake that will be attending these matches so we don't have a club.
